AEB
The AEB system – “the most important invention from the seat belt”
AEB (autonomous emergency braking system) is an autonomous system road safety which uses sensors to monitor distance from the vehicle in front and detects situations when the relative speed and distance between you and the target, it suggests that a collision is imminent. In such a situation, emergency braking can be applied automatically to avoid a collision or at least to alleviate the effects of its.
The emergency braking system substantially reduces speed and therefore the energy of impact against a stationary vehicle, if the driver fails to respond in time – accident turns out to be minor. Someone who drive in urban traffic can therefore avoid, largely a collision. Using lasers, cameras, or radar, the vehicle will detect potential collisions, and warn the driver. If it does not action, the car will automatically brake.
Autonomous emergency braking system uses a radar, lasers and a video camera to detect an imminent danger or a collision with the car in front. The software warns the driver and prepares the braking system. In the case if the driver does not react, the technology intervenes on brakes and operate them. However, this only happens after the driver was warned by visual and audio signals. The vast majority of emergency braking systems are capable of operating up to speeds of 30 km/h or 50 km/h.
According to Euro NCAP specialists, the presence of AEBS reduces the risks of an accident with up to 33%. Even in case of an accident, the AEB system continues to be useful preparing passive safety systems so car passengers to be more protected. The studies revealed a 33 percentage total reducing of real-world, rear-end crashes for automobiles equipped with low speed AEB in comparison to a sample of similar cars without AEB. There was no statistical improvement identified between urban (≤60km/h) and rural (>60km/h) speed areas.
ABS is a system with a features similar to adaptive cruise control and namely the automatic braking in the case of lack of reaction from the driver. Numerous accidents that occur on European highways due to lack of attention of certain drivers surprised either by sudden braking of vehicles that precedes or even by vehicles stopped in traffic jams have made the system to be imposed by legislation (mandatory) in the EU since 1 November 2018 for all vehicles.
Facts:
Studies conducted through the accident database indicates that, in case of accidents from the US resulting with human casualties, almost a third of drivers have not braked before the collision, and half have not used maximum braking capacity of the vehicle.
An analysis initiated by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the Department of Transportation data base indicates that, through an emergency braking system with the function of anticipation, it could be avoided approximately three out of four rear-end collisions resulting in human casualties.
This automatic braking system is already on the offers of automobile manufacturers (Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mazda, Ford and others), under different names. Premium car makers propose this technology of safety in the packages much more generously, while other brands put them to potential buyer as optional.
